Prompt 16: Son (School Spirits, Yuri)
Mar. 16th, 2026 12:13 amTitle: Sins of the Son
Fandom: School Spirits
Rating: PG
Characters/Pairings: Yuri/Charley
Warnings/Spoilers: Spoilers for season 3
Summary: When Charley asks Yuri if he's going to try and find his son, Yuri realises Charley already knew him.
“So, now that the barrier’s down and we can leave here,” Charley had asked, “do you think you’ll take the opportunity to get out there and maybe see how your son turned out?”
They hadn’t really talked about that since Yuri had first admitted to Charley the whole story of how he’d died (a couple of little things called Alfred van Heidt, helping Simon get back to the land of the living, and Wally having crossed over had pushed it to the back burner) but Yuri knew he couldn’t avoid this conversation forever. “I had all those years when I could have seen him here, if he’d actually attended here,” he began, “and at the time I chose not to look for him, just stayed in the art department making the same pottery over and over again, because I was too scared at the time to try and find anything out.” Yuri had admitted as much to Janet when she’d visited him, and Janet had offered to try and find out whether Yuri’s son actually was there, to see what she could find out about him, but Yuri had chosen not to take her up on it at the time. He chose not to mention this to Charley, however, not being up for a conversation about why Yuri had confided in Janet first.
“And even now there’s a part of me that thinks, well, he can’t see me, and it’s not as if I’d be able to talk to him, to tell him that I’m sorry that I panicked and I didn’t get to be a part of his life,” Yuri went on. “But seeing that kid that I think could be my grandson, that got me wondering about my son again. I’ve wondered what kind of person he is, what he went on to do with his life, whether he’s happy. So yeah, maybe one day I will try and see if I can see him.”
“Maybe Maddie and Simon would be able to help with finding him,” Charley suggested. “Xavier managed to help Kyle, so they should be able to find him too.”
“I might need them,” Yuri replied. “They might at least have some idea where to look. And probably better than my first idea of just trying to follow my grandson home, since I don’t even know for sure that he even is my grandson. I know he’d have Julie’s last name, which was Donahue, unless she got married and he took his stepfather’s name…”
Yuri tailed off as he realised Charley’s face had dropped at the mention of the last name Donahue. He quickly counted dates back, realised that the timeline fitted, that if his son had been at Split River High, he’d have been there at the same time as Charley. And while Charley had never mentioned any names specifically when he’d talked about his past bullying at school, the way he’d reacted right now to the name Donahue was giving Yuri some idea of exactly how their relationship had been.
Oh, shit. What the hell do I do now?
